The architect and the contractor

Creating an app is an art in itself. Some people classify this work under web development, but it's really quite different. Apart from the fact that an app must first be downloaded from the app stores of our friends at Apple, Google or Microsoft, an app is much more than just a portable source of information.

An app is much more than just a portable source of information.

I often compare creating an app to building a beautiful house. Designing starts with the architect. He starts with sketches and -in mutual consultation- makes a number of impression drawings. After discussing all the details, the contractor can get to work on the construction drawings and bill of materials. This way the client gets the house exactly as it was on the architect's drawing board.

Similar is the process for creating an app. The process starts with the Product designer, the app architect. Since it is not a pile of bricks, a UI/UX designer is needed to design the right screens and user experience.

At the same time, specifications are determined and recorded. This includes, for example, questions such as:

  • on which device the app should be usable
  • In what way should content be delivered
  • must be able to use content offline
  • who may use the app and in what language
  • etc, etc, etc.

After the specifications are complete, the contractor/programmer can work with the designer's drawings and the specification list. This gives the client exactly That app as it was on the Product designer's drawing board.

You don't have a house designed by the contractor and you don't have an app designed by a programmer.

In other words; for each part is specific expertise required and there is a lot involved. You don't have a house designed by the contractor and you don't have an app designed by a programmer. And vice versa, you don't have a house built by an architect or an app programmed by a designer.

Brovisuals has both areas of expertise. Both design and build. And you don't have to go to India, Ukraine or Nigeria for that, but just right in the middle of the beautiful Amersfoort.
